Taipei Babymoon Day 1: Shilin Night Market

We are back from our 5D4N Taiwan trip :)

The weather in Taipei was so super hot that we were basically roasting ourselves alive under the crazy sun. Departed via Tiger airways @0855hrs to Taoyuan International airport, had a quick bite at their subway as I was mad hungry after flying for almost 5hrs. We then made our way to the airport bus terminal to buy our bus tickets heading towards the city.

While we were trying to locate the Guoguang bus counter, a taxi driver approached us to share transport with another family of 4pax. He quoted us NT700 and I went "Wah! So expensive arh! It's ok we will take the bus since we are not in a hurry." But I guessed he was desperate since the other family was waiting for him to take off and we finally sealed the deal at NT500.

It was an hour ride to our hotel.

3.30pm. So happy to check in to our room. Super tired already.

Everything about Cityinn Hotel (XMD) was good during our stay except the air-conditioning in our room was not cold enough. Maybe because the weather was too hot?

The room is small (17sqm) but it's extremely clean. Bed is super comfy, toilet is almost as big as the bedroom completed with full set of toiletries, free mineral water and Doritos replenished every single day. They have free Blu-ray movies too, how cool is that! Hotel staff were very polite and helpful, even the cleaner aunty was so nice :) And it's located just in front of the XMD MRT exit 3. Costs SGD120/night.

We bought our easycards from the XMD MRT booth (NT500 each, NT100 refundable deposit with NT400 credit) and trained our way to Shilin night market to stuff ourselves silly.

Oh yah, btw do note that the Shilin night market is at JIANTAN station and not SHILIN station ok!

The first thing we bought was this wild boar meat sausage.

Then I saw somebody BBQing scallops.
I want!!!

Ordered their natural salt and seaweed flavour to try.

We bought this because we saw a lot of people queuing for it.
Some spring onions wrapped with slice of pork. NT10 per piece. I overheard the people in front of us ordering 8-10 pcs each. Thinking it must be good stuff, we ordered 3 pcs.
Regret! The spring onion they wrapped inside is the thick spring onion stalk and it's so hard to chew.
GW complained he chewed until his jaw cramp!

GW's favourite stall.
BBQ giant squid and all the chicken/duck internals.
He was so sad that the uncle wasn't there when we went back to Shilin on our third day.

He ordered the squid and chicken heart (I don't dare to eat sia)

Best squid ever.

My greedy picture eating a 蔥油餅. Deep fried pancake???
I super heart this until I craved and ate one every single day.
Oh! And the 胡椒餅 (Raohe branch) in the plastic bag I'm holding on to was super delish too!

Deep fried milk. I like!!!
Crispy on the outside and inside it's like gooey milk.

Taiwan street snacks is super awesome, I tell you. I'm like a complete swakoo wanting to try everything there, but cannot stomach anymore.

Trained back and reached hotel at 9pm, feeling like a half zombie. Very tired arrrhhhh.. No more energy to explore Ximending, called it a day as we needed rest for tomorrow's crazy itinerary.
